Recommend A... Book With A Green Cover

Recommend A... Book With A Green Cover!

I did the first of these memes on Valentine's Day and haven't done once since. Though it was about time I tried it out again and this time I am going to recommend a book that has a predominately green cover.

This was a surprisingly difficult task. I haven't read many book that are green and had to scourge around to find a couple. These aren't all my choices but let's give a go anyway...

City of Bones: The Mortal Instruments #1
by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air.

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

There is no way I could have gone without recommend this series. I know its overhyped. I know that Cassie Clare has a shit tonne of controversy surrounding her, but you know what? These books are just fun, and definitely worth trying out. They'll suck you in and make you fall in love with the Shadowhunters' world. Trust me.

Graceling: Graceling #1
by Kristin Cashore

In a world where people born with an exceptional skill, known as a Grace, are both feared and exploited, Katsa carries the burden of a skill even she despises: the Grace of killing.

Feared by the court and shunned by those her own age, the darkness of her Grace casts a heavy shadow over Katsa’s life. Yet she remains defiant: when the King of Lienid’s father is kidnapped she investigates, and stumbles across a mystery. Who would want to kidnap the old man, and why? And who was the extraordinary Graced man whose fighting abilities rivalled her own?

The only thing Katsa is sure of is that she no longer wants to kill. The intrigue around this kidnapping offers her a way out – but little does she realise, when she takes it, that something insidious and dark lurks behind the mystery. Something spreading from the shadowy figure of a one-eyed king...

That cover looks so much greener in real life...

Graceling is epic fantasy at its best. Adventure, ass-kicking, battles, epic magic systems - kind of - its thrilling, heart-wrenching and plain old good. The characters are fantastic. The plot will drag you in. If you love the genre, you have to pick this up ASAP!

100 Cupboards: 100 Cupboards #1
by N.D. Wilson

Twelve year old Henry York is going to sleep one night when he hears a bump on the attic wall above his head. It's an unfamiliar house - Henry is staying with his aunt, uncle and three cousins - so he tries to ignore it. But the next night he wakes up with bits of plaster in his hair. Two knobs have broken through the wall, and one of them is slowly turning...

Henry scrapes the plaster off the wall and discovers doors - ninety-nine cupboards of all different sizes and shapes. Through one he can hear the sound of falling rain. Through another he sees a glowing room - with a man strolling back and forth! Henry and his cousin Henrietta soon understand that those are not just cupboards. They are, in fact, portals to other worlds.

A completely underrated middle grade fantasy. Its poetically written and draws you into a completely unique world. It really deserves more attention.

I hope you found this at least a little helpful and were able to find a new book to check out. Obviously, I recommend all of these so all the best and happy reading!

December Wrap-Up + January TBR

December Wrap-Up!

This is a new monthly post that I have decided to put on so you get to know what's been happening within the last month and anything major I have in stock for next month, including by my TBR pile.

So December, eh?

Well, for me December was a pretty easy month. While the month dragged on and on, I can hardly believe its already over.

I had work experience for the entire first week and I got to spend that at a law firm in the city. The experience was very worth wile. I learnt so much and its was simply fantastic to be able to talk to and work with people in the business. My tasks including preparing files and other general administrative work but... *drum roll* I also got to attend directions meetings, observe meetings between the solicitors and their clients, and attend court for various matters. On the last day, staff member even took me down to the courts to watch the closing statements of a murder trial. It was simply wonderful!

Christmas also happened this month, obviously. I know that it a lot of people's highlights - I mean, who doesn't like getting presents!? - but I am not a huge fan of the holiday. Its for personal reasons. I am only mentioning this because I would love to haul my Christmas gifts but I didn't get any books this year to talk about.

What's been happening this month blogwise?

Top Ten Tuesday #10

This week topic is:-
Top Ten Characters You Wish Would Get Their Own Book

This is a weekly event created by The Broke and the Bookish where bloggers post a new "Top Ten" list for the particular week's topic. This week topic is in no particular order.

1. Draco Malfoy
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

I absolutely adore Draco. I think he one of the most complex and intriguing characters and I would give anything for a book in his perspective.

2. Simon Lewis
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

I have news that a series might be being written about him though. Yay! Check it out here.

3. Kanin
Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa

A prequel to the series about Kanin would be fantastic. Not only would I love to learn more about him and his past, but it was also be a good chance to create a great back story to the series and give us more information.

4. Wanderer / the Seeker
The Host by Stephenie Meyer

I really want a sequel from Wanderer's point of view (soley Wanderer) or a prequel from the Seeker's perspective about the other worlds and their lives on them.

4. Gale Hawthorne
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Gale was my favourite character from this series and I think it would be fantastic if Collins would write a book from Gale's perspective, especially if it was about what happens between the ending of Mockingjay and the epilogue.

5. Severus Snape
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

I know a lot of fans remain angry at Snape because of the ending of Deathly Hallows so I think a prequel from his perspective would be really beneficial.

6. Annabeth Chase
Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

Don't hate me but, I was never a huge fan of Percy and I always wanted the series to  have be written from Annabeth's perspective instead. In fact, I am currently Battle of the Labyrinth and am desperate for Annabeth to take the lead.

 7. Josh
Isla & the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Not sure why but the whole time I was reading this, I couldn't help but wonder how much better I would have enjoyed it if Josh had been the protagonist. I still loved this book to pieces but I really wanted his perspective...

 8. Noah Ryan
Don't Let Go by Sharla Lovelace

I really, really loved this guy when I read Don't Let Go and I cannot help but imagine how epic a prequel (with him as a teenager) would be. I am swooning just thinking about it...

9. Balthazar
Unreap my Heart by Kate Evangelista

This is one great "gotta love" villain and I would die for a story in his perspective!

 10. Po
Graceling & Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

A story about his time before meeting Katsa, about his upbringing in the palace, or a story about what he got up to between Graceling & Bitterblue - but from his perspective, not Katsa.

The Opposite Books Tag

The Opposite Books Tag

I was tagged in this challenge by the ever gorgeous Izzy @ The Reading Izzy. Thank you! Click on her name to check out her answers to this tag challenge.

What was the first book in your collection and the latest book you purchased?

I have absolutely no idea what my first book would have been. I have always been a reader and cannot remember a time before I had books!

The latest book I bought was Shattered Dreams.

The cheapest book you have bought? The most expensive?

I am assuming that free books don't count because I get a lot of review copies and Amazon freebies. The cheapest book that I have to pay for was probably Beauty Queen.  I go Op shopping a lot so I go this for a bargain 20 cents!

The most expensive would have had to be Harry Potter Film Wizardry - it cost me $48! Luckily I paid for half and got the rest as Christmas present.

A book you've read with a male protagonist? A female protagonist?

I was estimate that at least 95% of the books I read have female points of view. It isn't that I dislike reading from male POVs, jus the fact there are so little! One I did enjoy were:

Female POVs are just too numerous to list...

What was a book you read quite fast? A book that took you a long time to finish?

I read Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban in one day. It was that good! I think the most impressive one was Bitterblue though - I read that in a couple of hours at it is 800+ long!

The longest I took to read a book... hmm probably The Golden Compass. That is 1100+ page book which I started in year seven (three years ago) and still haven't finished.

What is you favourite "pretty" cover (you own) and your favourite ugly cover (you own)?

Some of my favourite covers are Wings, Flitterwig and Clockwork Princess.

One of my least favourite is the Princess Diaries series. All of the different editions have gross covers. None of them are nice! The copy I own has cover art which is so cheesy I want to cry whenever I see it. Honestly, it look like it was created on KidPix!

A favourite national + international book?

My favourite book set in Australia (my home country) would probably be the Laws of Magic series. I love this series very, very much and cannot believe that it was written by a fellow Australian.

(One of my goals for next year is to read more Australian book. Do you have any recommendation? I have a list of all the ones on my radar so far. All ideas and thoughts are most welcome!)

My favourite non-Australian book would probably be Shiver or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

What is the thinnest book you own and the thickest?

The thinnest book I probably own is The Audition which is 123 pages. The thickest book (not including bind-ups which would easily going into the 1100+ pages) would probably be Inheritance which is 850+ pages.

 A fiction + a non-fiction book you own?

I own 97% fiction books so I'll just go with the latest book I bought: Destined (Aprilynne Pike)

A non-fiction book that I enjoyed and own is... umm I cannot think of any! A non-fiction book I really want to read it Mao's Last Dancer though.

A romantic book you own? An action-packed one?

A book that made you happy? A book that made you sad?
