Readers' Problems Tag

Readers' Problems Tag

I was tagged in this challenge by Izzy @ The Reading Izzy. Thanks for the nomination! You can check out her post here.

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

I have this problem a lot, unfortunately, though I certainly don't have that many unread books! Luckily, I plan a lot of buddy reads in advance so I don't have the problem of having to choose. Also I participate in monthly challenges with a Goodreads group so I read books that correspond to whatever challenge is occurring at the time. At the moment the group is having a series challenge where the aim is to finish off as many series as possible so I am currently reading a lot of sequels. I also read books if I have received them for review purposes and that review is due soon.

If all that fails I use my TBR jar - its a much more enjoyable way of picking a book rather than stressing.

You're halfway through a book and you're just not loving it. Do you commit or are you committed?

It just depends on how "bad" the book is, where I got it from, if its for review purposes or not etc. It depends on so many little things!

If I own the book or got it for review purposes I will make a bigger effort to get through the book than I would if I borrowed it from the library.

How do you determine which book from your TBR pile to read next?

I normally read whatever read-to-review book I have due next or a book that suits the current month's challenge.

The end of the year is coming and you're so close, but too far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Of course I would try to catch up! I wouldn't dare leave the challenge unfinished; I would feel way too disappointed in myself. My way of catching up would probably be to read a tonne of short Amazon freebies or Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys books as they are also pretty short and easy to fly through.

The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope?

I don't cope to be honest. Cover changes are one of my biggest book peeves - they are always unnecessary and pointless. Ugh! The only way I could think of coping would be for me to buy the ebook instead of the physical copy of the books because you wouldn't see the cover on your kindle very often and it wouldn't be so annoying...

Everyone and their mother likes a book you didn't enjoy. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I have said this numerous times, I know, but I have a Goodreads group that I am a part of. We do a lot of buddy reads which is fantastic because their are always a few of use that have similar thoughts about the book that we read and we can share our thoughts and feelings that way. Even if that book was a book that everyone liked but us.

You're reading a book in public and you're about to start crying. What do you do?

I don't read in public for this reason but if, for some bizarre reason I was reading in public and I was about to cry, I would just cry and let everyone else deal with it. I am not ashamed to be seen being emotionally attached to books. That is legitimately my life - books, crying and awkwardness - and the people in this public place would probably never see me again anyway so *shrugs* deal with my crying, public people! :)

A sequel of a book you loved just came out but you've forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Do you go back and reread the book, skip the sequel, read the synopsis, cry  of frustration or what?

I would just go back and read the previous book. For me, it makes more sense to remember everything so you can enjoy the new sequel fully. If the sequel was the 20th book in a series however I might just take a risk and start reading it - hoping everything would fall into place in my mind. If it didn't, I would just stop, read the previous book and then go back to the new sequel.

You don't want anyone to borrow your books. How do you politely tell them that when they ask you for one of your books to borrow?

I would try and be honest, tell them that I had had some issues in the past with people borrowing my books and I no longer felt comfortable lending them out. I would make suggestions where they can get the book elsewhere - the library, another friend etc. - so they would still get the chance to read the book though.

You've picked up and put down five book in the past month. How do you get over these sorts of reading slumps?

I take a break. Watch some television or a movie. I write something. I catch up on my blog posts. Then I try another book. Rinse and repeat. Until I find that book that breaks the slump.

There are so many new books coming out that you're dying to read. How many do you buy?

None of them probably. I am just a teen with no income so I have practically no money. I don't get the chance to buy books very often at all. The only time I buy them is if I own the rest of the series (if its an upcoming sequel) or if the author is a favourite of mine - such as Cassandra Clare.

    1. Anytime Morrighan! Thanks. Oh, and a TBR jar is simple - you just put all the books you have on your bookshelf to read on little slips of paper, fold them up and put them in a jar or container (my are in a little mug). Then when you need to read something but don't know what book you feel like you can just pick out a slip of paper and its done for you! Its works great for me - I am too indecisive otherwise.

Oh nice! I am on holidays too at the moment and its bliss having no responsibilities, isn't it!? Best of luck and enjoy the tag! :)
