Review: The Starlight Chronicles | Gideon Lee + Lark Singer

Review of the Starlight Chronicles
by Lisa Orchard:

This post will consist of separate reviews for the first two books in this series.

Gideon Lee (Book One)

My Thoughts:

I feel like I should have more to say about this book but nothing really comes to mind other than "average". The plot was pretty simple and the characters were rather bland. I really wasn't a huge fan of Lark, our protagonist, as she was mouthy, moody and a little too judgemental for my liking. The writing was also pretty average. The word "jam" (as in the word for practicing music with a band, jamming, not the food) was used thirty nine times - way too many! Also, I found the ending extremely annoying as it left too many loose ends unresolved.

With all the being said, I didn't quite dislike this book. It took no time to ease through and there were times that I caught myself smiling. I plan on picking up the sequel as soon as I finish this and my fingers are already crossed in hope that it will satisfy my curiosity.

Lark Singer (Book Two)

My Thoughts:

This sequel was much more enjoyable than Gideon Lee. I don't know what changed but despite Lark's annoying rants and rages, she seemed to have really developed from the previous book. I also found the plot more engaging. There was an added emotional angle and a little mystery to keep us reading. I won't go into further detail so I won't spoil anyone, but I will say that it was much more emotional intense than the last book. The story flowed really well and sucked you in.

I have to say that I quite enjoyed this and I am really looking forward to the next sequel. I don't know when the release date is but I am hoping it won't be too far away

  1. I am glad the sequel was an improvement for you! I know how hard it can be to rate those average books because there seems to be nothing much to say. Nothing negative but nothing amazing either!

    1. I always love it when the series gets better as they go along. It makes it much more exciting if you know what I mean. Its super hard to review mediocre books. Its exactly as you put it - nothing to criticise but nothing to praise either. :)
