Waiting on Wednesday: I Have High Hopes For This One

Waiting on Wednesday

This is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine.

I only stumbled onto this book a couple of days ago. Somehow I was looking something up and I clicked on this cover and voila! There was this book's page before me and as soon as I saw it I knew that I had to read it.

22701879Not If I See You First
by Eric Lindstrom

Parker Grant doesn't need 20/20 vision to see right through you. That's why she created the Rules: Don't treat her any differently just because she's blind, and never take advantage of her. There will be no second chances. Just ask Scott Kilpatrick, the boy who broke her heart.

When Scott suddenly reappears in her life after being gone for years, Parker knows there's only one to react - shun him so hard it hurts. She has enough on her mind at the moment already, like trying out for the track team (that's right, her eyes don't work but her legs still do), doling out tough-love advice to her painfully naive classmates, and giving herself a gold stars for everyday she hasn't cried sine her dad's death three months ago.

But avoiding her past quickly proves impossible, and the more Parker learns about what really happened -- both with Scott, and her dad -- the more she starts to questions if things are always as they seem. Maybe, just maybe, some Rules are meant to be broken.

I was only talking about this last week with Inge's, Shannon's and Kayla's announcement of their upcoming (new) event Shattering Stigmas - we need some books (preferably YA) with disabled protagonist that are actually written honestly and well.

Waiting On Wednesday: My Current Most Anticipated Read

Waiting on Wednesday

This is a weekly feature hosted by Breaking the Spine where bloggers highlight an upcoming release they are eagerly anticipating.

I haven't done this meme in such a long time. There are always books that I am eagerly anticipating so I really have no excuse...

Anywho, the book I am currently anticipating the most:

This is Where the World Ends
by Amy Zhang

24039424

Janie and Micah, Micah and Janie. That's how it's been ever since elementary school, when Janie Vivian moved next door. Janie says Micah is everything she is not. Where Micah is shy, Janie is outgoing. Where Micah loves music, Janie loves art. It's the perfect friendship, as long as no one finds out about it.

But when Janie is date-raped by the most popular guy in school - a guy she's had a crush on for years - she fins herself ostracized by all the people she thought were her friends. Now only Micah seems to believe she's telling the truth. But when even Micah expresses doubt about whether or not she as "asking for it", it leads to disastrous consequences, and Janie Vivian goes missing.

Using nonlinear writing style and dual narrator, Amy Zhang's astonishing second novel masterfully reveals the circumstances surrounding Janie's disappearance.

Release Date: March 22nd 2016
Publisher: Greenwillow Books

After absolutely adoring Amy Zhang's debut novel, Falling Into Place, I need more of her work. It was honestly the most honest and raw book I've ever read. It made me have all the feels. ALL of them. Even the ones that I didn't know existed!

The plotline may put people off a little - YA authors aren't exactly known for their treatment of sensitive topics like date-rape - BUT the way the author handled the dark themes of Falling Into Place has given me completely faith in her. And the possibility of a best friend romance is to much to overlook!

Go preorder it peeps!

Description:

This is a love story between a guy (me) and a girl (Fallon).
I think.

Can it even be considered a love story if it doesn’t end with love?
Mysteries end when the mystery is solved.  Biographies end when the life story has been told.  Love stories should end with love, right?

Maybe I’m wrong, then. Maybe this isn’t a love story. If you ask me… I’d say this might even be considered a tragedy.

Whatever it is — however it ends — I promised I would tell it. So without further ado.

Once upon a time…I met a girl.
The girl.

Description:

A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness for their planet, and protect them from destruction. Some say Flynn’s a madman, others whisper about conspiracies. Nobody knows the truth. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were rescued from a terrible shipwreck—now, they live a public life in front of the cameras, and a secret life away from the world’s gaze.

Now, in the center of the universe on the planet of Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players, who will bring the fight against LaRoux Industries to a head. Gideon Marchant is an eighteen-year-old computer hacker—a whiz kid and an urban warrior. He’ll climb, abseil and worm his way past the best security measures to pull off onsite hacks that others don’t dare touch.

Sofia Quinn has a killer smile, and by the time you’re done noticing it, she’s got you offering up your wallet, your car, and anything else she desires. She holds LaRoux Industries responsible for the mysterious death of her father and is out for revenge at any cost.

When a LaRoux Industries security breach interrupts Gideon and Sofia’s separate attempts to infiltrate their headquarters, they’re forced to work together to escape. Each of them has their own reason for wanting to take down LaRoux Industries, and neither trusts the other. Duplicity
by N.K. Traver:

I stumble onto this book yesterday when I was browsing the new releases for early 2015. While I am not normally up for the whole "bad boy turning good" clichéd romance-type storyline that idea that he is reflection wants to take over his life sounds absolutely incredible. I am tempted to preorder it right now but it doesn't come out until March. March! I cannot wait that long...

Links:     Amazon preorder   |    Goodreads page

I love the cover. It isn't exactly pretty but it works - it looks "mirrory", has the parts of good and bad in different colours and has the reflections' hand. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Description:

A computer-hacking teen. The girl who wants to save him. And a rogue mirror reflection that might be the death of them both.
In private, seventeen-year-old Brandon hacks bank accounts just for the thrill of it. In public, he looks like any other tattooed bad boy with a fast car and devil-may-care attitude. He should know: he’s worked hard to maintain that façade. With inattentive parents who move constantly from city to city, he’s learned not to get tangled up in things like friends and relationships. So he’ll just keep living like a machine, all gears and wires.

Then two things shatter his carefully-built image: Emma, the kind, stubborn girl who insists on looking beneath the surface – and the small matter of a mirror reflection that starts moving by itself. Not only does Brandon’s reflection have a mind of its own, but it seems to be grooming him for something—washing the dye from his hair, yanking out his piercings, swapping his black shirts for … pastels. Then it tells him: it thinks it can live his life better, and it’s preparing to trade places.

And when it pulls Brandon through the looking-glass, not only will he need all his ill-gotten hacking skills to escape, but he’s going to have to face some hard truths about who he’s become. Otherwise he’ll be stuck in a digital hell until he’s old and grey, and no one will even know he's gone.

This sounds so interesting! I love a good contemporary novel and I know that this author has written some really popular and well-loved books previously. I haven't read any of them personally but I already pumped for this one.

If you could read my mind, you wouldn’t be smiling.

Samantha McCallister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can’t turn off.

Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn’t help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she’d be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam’s weekly visits to her psychiatrist.

Caroline introduces Sam to Poet’s Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more “normal” than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear.

Even if this is a middle-grade fantasy and ignoring all the bad reviews that have been written so far, I have to same that I am super duper excited! Only nine more days to its released!

What a gorgeous cover!
