Sunday Overview: Series Marathons and a Small Haul

Sunday Overview

Personal Life: 

Yeah, not much has been happening for me lately. I'm on holidays at the moment - thank God - and while that normally means I'm out and about, doing holidayish thing like shopping book buying, this week has been pretty sheltered. And that's Rachel code for nothing. Nada. Zip. I've barely moved from my bedroom - except to get food of course, because, you know, food - and it my opinion, that's the best part of the holiday: resting and reading.

On Friday I did manage to leave the house though, and I caught up with some of my primary school mates which was pretty nice. We ended up at the movies and there wasn't anything on but Inside Out so we saw that and I am sooo glad we did. It was simply delightful! I know it seems a little childish but it had a lot of adult humour and themes that I think would have gone over a lot of kid's heads. My favourite character was Sadness because, well how could I not adore her? She's practically my spirit animal.

Reading: 

I've just found a new series that I'm currently obsessed with. It's 100% addictive and I barely knew existed before this week. Where has it been hiding!? I've already flown through the first four books - like I said before, I have a lot of time on my hands with the holidays - and have the next two books sitting on my shelf just waiting. What series am I talking about, you're wondering? Well, the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. 

It's a YA epic fantasy set in an awesome realm with this awesome group of people called Rangers - a ninja-Katniss Everdeen hybrid - knights & chivalry, hilarious banter, Will... and no magic. That doesn't sound good, but it is actually really refrehsing to read a fantasy purely about the realm and its characters. No magical voodoo to muck everything up. 

Anyway, definitely worth a read.

I also picked up Small Steps by Louis Sachar - the sequels to Holes - but I don't really want to talk about it. It was such a let down. 

Haul: 

I didn't get too much this week - yeah for self-restraint! 

I requested a copy of Has to Be Love by Jolene Perry - thanks Albert Whitman and Co - because I only mildly enjoyed her last book, Stronger Than You Know and I had to give her work another go. A lot of my Goodreads friends adore her and I want to too.

I was also sent a copy of Circus by the author - thanks Cameron! - which just came out on the 10th of July, so I'll try to read that as soon as I can.
