Help! I'm in a Reading Slump...

I haven't posted a review in awhile and the reason is pretty simple: I haven't been reading.

Gasps. Eyebrow raising. Distant screaming.

Yes, I know that's pretty weird for me but I have been in a HUGE reading slump these last couple of weeks and I just cannot shake it off. I have tried every book I own and just end up putting it down after a chapter or two, bored. Then I'll try another one, and another one, never settling. I am currently reading four or five books and it just isn't working.

This is me asking for your help.

I need a book to focus on. The only questions is which one? Help me by letting me know which one I should read next.

You can vote on the poll below (or on my sidebar). Please only the one book you think and then click "vote". In one week's time I'll check back and then I'll read through them in order from highest amount of votes to lowest amount of votes.

Thanks in advance voters!

What Should I Read Next?

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder

The Dead of Night by John Marsden

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie Maguire

  1. Try Rebel Belle.I've heard good things about that one. For some reason my vote wouldn't go through.
I seem to be a reading slump of my own the past few days. I'm just like you picking up books and then putting them back down again. I don't know what to do......
I wish you well, and hopefully you'll be out of the slump in no time :)

    1. Oops! I'll see what's wrong with it. Its seems that a couple of people had problems. I

That was my dilemma too. Maybe try soemthign like this..? Or watch those "get over a reading slump" videos on Youtube. All the popular vloggers have done one at some point.

Thanks. Me too! And thanks for your vote.

  2. My vote wouldn't go through, but I finished We Were Liars in one day! I haven't read the rest though, so I can't say it's better than them :D

Good luck getting out of the slump. I've been in a pretty awful one lately as well.

    1. Thanks Katie! I have heard lots about that one and it was the one standing out the most.

I think I am going to need it. Thanks and best luck to you too! :)

  3. When ever I'm in a reading slump, I re-read an old favorite. Like Harry Potter, or something. It helps me to reset in a way.

  5. I actually haven't read any of these so I wouldn't really feel like voting on which one you should. Personally, I'm not a fan of others telling me what to read because that makes my expectations skyrocket and somehow, I just don't end up enjoying the book like I could've.

For a slump, I like to reread stuff, just to get me going again but everyone is different. I hope you get through it <3

    1. Thanks for the advice Nova! That is normally why I avoid popular books for the first few months after publication.

I think I will reread a favourite before I attempt this pile again. :)

  6. This is hard because I've noticed we don't usually like the same books.. I hated We Were Liars so maybe that means you'll love it! I just finished Beautiful Disaster though and I quite liked it though the characters were a bit outrageous.. Entertaining to me!

  7. We Were Liars ALL THE WAY! I love that book, just don't go on the internet while reading or look it up or anything. Let the book be a surprise and I guarantee you'll fall in love with it. It's written in such a gorgeous nearly poetic way but it's still relatable and easy to read. I love love love it. Please love love love it with me!!

  9. The only book I've read from your list is Beautiful Disaster. And I liked it. It's pretty funny and frustrating at the same time.

  10. AHHHHH THE DREADED READING SLUMP!!!
It happens to all of us. I've been in one for several months…but it's being prolonged because of my work schedule. I just don't really have time to sit and relax. When I do I am so exhausted mentally (my job is very brain-intensive) LOL and I can't concentrate on a book. I've been reading lots of graphic novels and middle grade because I just can't focus on other stuff. I'm a bit better lately, but it's really hard. I read so slow now because it's like 10 mins here and then a few days later another ten it's so hard. I think reading slumps happen in so many circumstances.
If it's not a time thing and just like random I'd say be patient and take ALL the pressure off of yourself to read. It sounds crazy, but seriously tell yourself that for 7 days you don't have to or aren't going to read ANYTHING. Surprisingly, once those days are over you're going to be so excited to read you'll be out of your slump :D Another thing that can work is picking up a series and rereading it like for me, Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson always gets me happy and out of my slump too. You could always stop for shorter time too like 5 days or even 3, the point is sometimes it's that continual feeling of "having" to read such and such and review for the blog that is in your mind for so long you just kind of react the opposite to it—ya know?

Hope this helps! And, I hope you get out of your slump soon! <3

    1. Its certainly dreaded! There's is honestly nothing worse...
I can certainly relate. With school, piano and dance I have no free time. When I do, the last thing I can do is sit down and concentrate. I hope you manage to find a way out of yours sometime soon! Its so draining!
The middle grade idea has been helping. I am currently trudging through Geek Girl - which is hilarious and just a really fun read.
Thanks so much for this advice! I really appreciate it and I am going to take it all into consideration. I think I'll give myself this week off and then reread a HP book. And yes, I do know. I quickly read We Were Liars because I had a review of it due and its just made me feel gross to read a book because I had to.

This helps so much. <3 I hope you get out your slump quickly too. There's is seriously nothing worse and I hope your work calms down for a bit. You deserve a rest! :)
